About
Our Story
Our Founder and Director Gayle Saks attended overnight camp for 15 summers on the grounds where Camp Happy Place will take place. Now as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Gayle works with middle and high school students, many of who have lost a parent to addiction. It became her mission to bring the joy she experienced each summer to kids who deserve and need it most. Therapeutic staff will be on hand if needed, but the essence of Camp Happy Place will be fun.
With an anticipated launch date of June 2025, Camp Happy Place will serve 30 campers ages 9-12 who have suffered the unfathomable loss of a parent to addiction. They will enjoy three nights and four days experiencing all the activities of a typical overnight summer camp – sports, arts and crafts, campfires, talent shows, swimming and outdoor adventures such as climbing walls and ropes courses led by experienced staff.
Fifty percent of our frontline staff, including camp counselors, athletic instructors, and administrators, are either in recovery, licensed addiction counselors, social workers, or have experience working with children in public school systems.
Set among 100 acres at the foothills of the magnificent Berkshire Mountains, Camp Happy Place will be where memories are made.
